Rick Mattox - General Manager
Rick began his career in the golf business with an assistant professional job in Lexington, North Carolina. He then went to Pawtucket Golf Club in Charlotte, North Carolina for 7 years as an assistant. Rick was elected to PGA Membership in February 1975 after satisfying all the requirements.Rick's first Head Golf Pro offer came in 1977 at the Carolina Golf & Country Club in Charlotte. In 1978 he was promoted to General Manager. As General Manager he was exposed to the entire golf operation. In 1986 he was hired by Jim Colbert Golf at Pawtuckett Golf Club as Head Professional and General Manager. In April of 1989 Rick was hired as general manager of golf operations at The Hampton Club, St. Simons Island Georgia. In 1991 his duties were expanded to oversee our real estate development in Hampton Plantation. In 2009, Rick along with our Greens Superintendant, Chuck Moore, managed the renovation of the original Joe Lee Design by architect Billy Fuller. We closed the Hampton Club on April 1, 2009 and reopened October 10 of the same year with a new name The King and Prince Golf Course: Home of The Hampton Club. Upon being elected to Class A Membership in 1975, Rick has received various honors like East Chapter PGA Pro of the Year in 1998 and 2002 and served as Georgia PGA Board of Directors in 2001 and 2002.
Chuck Moore - Head Groundskeeper
Chuck attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) in Tifton, Georgia, for his golf turf degree. While at ABAC, he completed his fall internship with Hampton Club before graduating with honors in 1995. After graduation, Chuck stayed at Hampton Club as a part of the golf maintenance crew in the winter of 1995. Chuck worked his way from a crew member to spray technician to assistant superintendent. He was our assistant superintendent for three years before he left for his first head superintendent job in Lake Park, Georgia, at the Francis Lake Golf and Country Club in 1999. After a year, Chuck returned and became our head superintendent in June of 2000. As our golf course superintendent, he has overseen our new pump house / wet well installation in 2001, our irrigation renovation in 2007, and our golf course renovation in 2009. Chuck is a class A member of the Georgia and National Golf Course Superintendents Associations.
Bruce Taylor - Clubhouse Manager / Director of Operations
Bruce began his career with the King and Prince Hotel in 1989. Originally hired as a part time bellman, his old fashion work ethic and desire to succeed drove him to commit full time to the resort. He learned the business from the ground up, working his way through Bell Captain, Night Audit, Front Desk, Housekeeping and Banquets. In 1993 he was promoted to Clubhouse Manager at The Hampton Club.
Matthew Evans - Head Golf Professional
Matt was born into golf. His father is a PGA professional of over 40 years. Raised at the Waynesboro Country Club, in Waynesboro, Virginia, Matt learned a great love for the game. Matt competed in VSGA and AJGA events; he also played golf in high school where, as a four year starter, he helped lead his school to win the Virginia AAA State Golf Championship all four years. Matt went on to Coastal Carolina University, majored in Marketing and graduated in 2001. He took his first assistant professional job at Hermitage Country Club in Manakin-Sabot, Virginia. He completed his PGA certification and was elected to membership in May 2006. In November he married and took an assistant professional position at Atlanta National Golf Club in Alpharetta, Ga. Matt joined the team in May of 2008.
Charmaine Mattox - Membership and Events Coordinator
A native of South Carolina, Charmaine has been with us for many years. After overseeing customer service at Pawtuckett Golf Club in Charlotte, NC, she moved to St. Simons where she served as Merchandise Coordinator for our Pro Shop. Upon completion of the 2009 renovations, Charmaine has taken on additional responsibilities in her new role serving the membership base with various activities and events throughout the year.
